Healthy Snacks Featured at International Spa Association Media Event: Nutrient Dense Granola and Himalayan Salt Sole

BEVERLY HILLS, CA – Spa-goers and health-conscious foodies looking for smart nutrition to start their day can take lessons from advice shared by spa professionals at the International Spa Association (ISPA) West Coast Media Event June 1.

The Oaks at Ojai, an affordable fitness destination spa well-known for healthy weight loss programs and low-calorie spa cuisine, partnered with Saltability, a top provider of Himalayan salt for spa treatments, to showcase healthy snacks at the event. Media attendees made and took home The Oaks’ popular homemade granola and were given Himalayan salt to make the drink sole (pronounced “so-lay”), a saturated solution of water and Himalayan salt that provides a daily infusion of energy and a variety of health benefits.

Chef Christine Denney, executive chef and food services director at Ojai, leads the culinary team at the mountain resort in California.

“Self-nurturance is about truly respecting your body’s requirements and providing it with regular and adequate nutrition to thrive,” said Denney. “Packed with nutritional powerhouses like pumpkin and sunflower seeds, homemade granola is a great way to fuel the body from the very start of your day.”

Featuring gluten-free oats, raw pumpkin and sunflower seeds, coconut and dried cranberries, The Oaks’ easy-to-follow, gluten-free granola recipe uses commonly found ingredients.

Before eating or drinking anything else in the morning, adopting a habit of starting your day with sole gives a boost to your body as it transitions from rest to work. Detoxifying and hydrating, sole supports the thyroid and adrenal systems.

“When you drink sole in the morning, you’ll notice you have more energy during the day and feel better, plus sleep better at night,” said Ann Brown, Saltability founder. “Through sole, Himalayan salt’s 84 trace minerals nourish each cell in your body.”

Sole can be mixed with some lemon and coconut water for flavor add-ins. Born from the Primal Sea, where scientists and scholars believe all life originated, Himalayan salt has been noted as a 2016 top spa trend by American Spa Magazine.
